What is Tricolor?

Tricolor is a zine by me, Halo (evilbarking), an artist from Kansas City.

This project began in June of 2024 as an idea to compile the work of my friends and local artists I admire into a vibrant book that could be given out for free. Kansas City is full of incredible talent and I wanted to give them another way to showcase their work, the goal being creative freedom and an alternative to the draining task of promoting your art on social media. Bookmaking and physical work have always been a passion of mine, so creating a physical zine was an important part of the process. There is a great community of artists in Kansas City, both far along in their art-making journey and just beginning to discover their direction. Tricolor is for all those artists to display their hard work exactly as they like.

As of now, full artist issues of Tricolor such as the first issue will be an annual project. However, smaller issues and articles will be published throughout the year! I intend on interviewing and featuring local poets, writers, and other creators in our community, as well as creating little zines with resources and tips that might help out beginner creators. Sharing knowledge is very important, and passing on special skills to other creators strengthens the art world. If you have any ideas for Tricolor, don't hesitate to reach out! This project would not be possible without community involvement.

If you're an artist and insterested in being in Tricolor, visit the home page for updates on open calls for new issues, or visit the Submit Your Art! tab at the top of the page.

This project is free to join, and each artist who is involved in an issue of Tricolor will recieve their own printed copy at no cost. If you would like a copy of a certain issue, they are available to download and print for free! If you cannot print a copy yourself, just reach out and I will do what I can to get you one.

This zine is funded entirely by me, and is free for both artists and readers. If you would like to support the zine and have the means to do so, you can donate to our Ko-fi! All money will go towards printing and shipping more copies for people to enjoy.
